Broken Bow City Council budget hearing, regular meeting set for Tuesday night

The City of Broken Bow will have a budget hearing as well as their regular city council meeting on Tuesday evening. The budget hearing will begin at 5 PM at the Municipal Building, with the city council meeting to start immediately following adjournment of the budget hearing.

The budget request for October 1, 2024 through September 30, 2025, total personal and real property tax required, is $1,141,541.39.

Tuesday’s City Council meeting new business items open with establishing a policy for the payment of payroll, payroll associated expenses, and other recurring monthly expenses prior to the approval of claims.

The annual appropriation bill appears on the agenda next, for public hearing, three readings, and approval.

A 1% restricted funds increase and setting the final property tax request for 2024-2025 appear next. The total assessed value of property differs from last year’s total assessed value by 5.37%. The tax rate, which would levy the same amount of property taxes as last year, when multiplied by the new total assessed value of property would be 0.467667 per $100 of assessed value. The city is proposing to adopt a property tax request that will cause its tax rate to be 0.433432 per $100 of assessed value. Based on the proposed property tax request and changes in other revenue, the total operating budget of the City of Broken Bow will increase last year’s budget by 16.75%.

Ordinance 1291, a wage ordinance for 2024-2025, would set a pay scale table for city employees. It is up for public hearing, three readings, and consideration for approval.

To close Tuesday’s meeting, council will have a public hearing and consideration of approving a one and six year street plan. The one year plan involves a project that addresses concrete, grading, storm sewer, and erosion control on Linden Ave/Maple Drive/Pine Street, a low water crossing on 15th Avenue, and ADA ramps in various locations (all totaling an estimated $2,675,000). The six year plan includes eight projects totaling $10,210,000 including concrete removal/replacement, ADA ramps, sidewalks, storm sewers, and erosion control.
