Broken Bow City Council approves police vehicle purchase, street closure
Joe Wamsley addresses City Council on behalf of Myers Construction

BROKEN BOW -The Broken Bow City Council met for a special meeting on Thursday (August 1) at the Broken Bow Municipal Building. The temporary closure of a street and the purchase of a police vehicle were the only agenda items. Councilman Chris Myers was absent.

The intersection of North 9th Avenue and North C Street will be closed beginning on Monday for public safety from construction hazards from the school building project.

Myers Construction representative Joe Wamsley told council the closing shouldn’t last more than a week depending on the weather. The approved item states the closing should be for a period of time not to exceed 7 total days, to be completed no later than Monday, August 19.

A Ford Police Interceptor Utility Vehicle purchase in the amount of $31,500 was also approved by the council on Thursday.

Dave Schmidt, City Administrator, said the move is being made in anticipation of Advanced Life Support services being expanded. A Broken Bow police pickup will be transferred to David Baltz to be used as his vehicle. The vehicle approved for purchase would replace it as a vehicle for the Broken Bow Police Department and eliminate the need for the city to purchase one that would have an impact on the next year’s budget. Schmidt said there is high confidence in the truck continuing to be reliable for Baltz after recent extensive repairs.

Councilman Luke Wassom suggested that a conversation be had in the future about replacing one police vehicle per year going forward, rather than replacing several at the same time after several years.
