Broken Bow City Administrator, Council applaud snow removal effort

BROKEN BOW- The Broken Bow City Council met at the municipal building Tuesday evening promptly at 6:00.

Snow removal was one main topic of discussion. More specifically, City Administrator David Schmidt and Council alike applauded the effort put in by city crews on snow removal. Schmidt stated that crews had been out since 3 am Tuesday morning and that as of the time of the council meeting were still out plowing and removing snow.

Schmidt estimates that the business and downtown area of town is 90 to 95% cleared, residential areas are about 70 to 75% cleared, and areas surrounding schools to be 100% cleared. He stated that the plan of attack for Wednesday is to continue to clear snow and branch out further for deeper clearing on side streets.

Deb McCaslin addresses the Broken Bow City Council

After approval of the consent agenda, Deb McCaslin with Teammates appeared before the council with an update and overview of Teammates in Broken Bow. In her brief overview, McCaslin stated that Teammates launched in Broken Bow in 2012 and that the organization is ready to expand. The expansion would allow students and Broken Bow Public Schools down to the 3rd grade level to have a mentor through Teammates.

McCaslin invited the public to a Q&A session January 17 at noon at Melham Medical Center as well as a business after hours at the Broken Bow Library that same day at 5:30 pm. She closed by stating that Hershey and Mullen Schools both have 100% of eligible students paired with a mentor and saying “Why couldn’t that be us too?”.

In new business, the council approved David Schmidt as the Broken Bow Floodplain Administrator and Jacob Holcomb as the Floodplain Co-Administrator.

The Olson Group was on the agenda for council to consider approving a partnership with them as the city’s health insurance broker. Due to weather, their appearance was moved to the meeting on February 13th.

The next city council meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, January 23 at 6:00 pm.
