Blowin the Doors Off BBQ in Oconto set for June 7

On Saturday, June 7, 2025, the Oconto Volunteer Fire Department will host their annual Blowin the Doors Off BBQ.

The all-you-can-eat BBQ starts at 5 p.m. when the gates open. There are 12 teams set to compete this year. Jared Eggleston, an Oconto fireman, encourages people to check out all of the cooks and look for the shortest line. “Any of the cookers is ready to serve at 5 o’clock,” said Eggleston.

The BBQ will have live music from South Loup Sunrise starting at 5 p.m., and then at 8, Tim Zach will take over. At 7, they will announce the winners of the BBQ, and there will be a raffle drawing and auction. Some items include a Blackstone griddle, a Henry 22 Rifle, a Mossberg Shotgun, a $200 Mills Hardware gift card, and more.

Tickets for the event cost $17 for adult advance tickets or $20 at the gate. Tickets for children ages 5-12 years old cost $10. For advance tickets, scan the QR code on the poster, purchase them at Eggleston Oil, or find an Oconto fireman.

This event is cash and check only. They will not accept any credit or debit cards. Eggleston advises anyone attending the event to get cash ahead of time. “If you are coming, maybe stop at your bank or an ATM ahead of time. There are no ATMs in Oconto,” said Eggleston.

The money made at the BBQ will help the Oconto VFD purchase new equipment and help pay for firefighter training.
