LINCOLN – The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will accept applications for a 2023 bighorn sheep lottery permit through August 4. Only Nebraska residents are eligible and must be at least 12 years old by the date the season opens.
Apply at a Nebraska Game and Parks office or through the Nebraska Game and Parks website. A $29 nonrefundable application fee must accompany each application.
According to Game and Parks, only one application per calendar year may be submitted. All applications must be received in the Lincoln office or online by 5 p.m. on the August 4 deadline
The winner of the lottery permit will receive up to 4 days of free guide service from Game and Parks staff and up to 4 days and nights of meals and lodging at Fort Robinson State Park.
The bighorn sheep lottery offers Nebraska residents the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to take a full-curl ram. Since Game and Parks began making bighorn permits available, approximately $1.4 million has been raised from permit auctions and lottery permits.
The proceeds from the permit process are critical to the continued success of bighorn conservation efforts throughout the state and have made it possible for bighorn sheep to return to native ranges across the Panhandle.
The 2023 bighorn sheep season is from November 28 through December 22.
