Benefit for Donnie Meyer to take place this weekend in Arnold

ARNOLD, NE- This Saturday, April 6, the public is invited to the American Legion Hall in Arnold from 5 PM to 7 PM for a benefit event for Donnie Meyer, who is fighting lung cancer.

Event organizer Becky Dailey said that her personal experience with cancer and the challenges involved inspired her to put together the event.

“Me and my husband both being through cancer, I know how it affects you. I just wanted to do something for Donnie. So I put together a benefit for him to help him out with expenses because there’s a lot of expenses that’s incurred in traveling, hotels, eating out, just a lot of extras,” said Dailey.

This is Meyer’s second bout with cancer and he recently finished his second round of treatment. Dailey said a great variety of silent auction items have been donated, from hours of auto work and a beef bundle to a wide variety of gift baskets, gift certificates, tools, and more.

“The Exchange is providing the lunch. We’re going to have pulled pork sandwiches, baked beans, chips, and drinks for a free will donation.  We’re also having a bake sale which will be a silent auction,” Dailey added.

There’s still time to donate items to the event, Dailey said. She encouraged phone calls to herself at 308-539-6543, or messages through Facebook. Auction items and information about the event can be found on the event Facebook page, which Dailey encouraged the public to follow and share.
