Bassett, Cozad, Lexington, North Platte airports receive FAA grant funds

In June and July, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) awarded $18 million to 24 airports across the state. The grant funds are part of a nationwide initiative to enhance airfield safety and infrastructure.

As a part of the grand money awarded, Rock County Airport in Bassett, Cozad Municipal, and Jim Kelly Field in Lexington received $365,753 each. North Platte Regional/Lee Bird Field received $3,404,291.

Roc County plans to use the funds to rehabilitate apron, taxiway, and runway. In Cozad, plans include construction of taxiway. Lexington will  use their money to construct a hangar. In North Platte, the construction of a terminal building is in the works.

Nebraska’s airports are a part of a broader vision, with the FAA distributing over $123 million in grants to 235 airports in 35 states and the District of Columbia. The promotion of safety, efficiency, environmental stewardship, infrastructure, and security across America’s airports is a goal of the grants.
