August Teachers of the Month

BROKEN BOW – The August teachers of the month for Custer County have been announced. Initiated by Shelter Insurance of Broken Bow, the Teacher of the Month program seeks to highlight exceptional performance by exceptional educators in an exceptional field.

This month’s teachers are Jan Osborn, a business teacher in Sargent, and Jason Reed, an educator within Anselmo-Merna Public Schools.

Osborn is currently celebrating her 19th year with Sargent; her first four years in Sargent were spent as the Tech Coordinator, and the remaining fifteen in her current role as a business teacher. She has served two terms, totaling six years, on the Nebraska Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) Board of Directors, and was recently named the Nebraska FBLA Outstanding Advisor of the Year.

Reed, a Skilled & Technical Science educator in A-M, has over 20 years of experience in his field. Prior to landing in A-M, he taught in the North Platte and Lexington school systems.

Mr. Reed incorporates a variety of disciplines and their practical application into his curriculum, including welding, woodworking, STEM, and building construction courses. His SkillsUSA program regularly sends teams to state and national-level competitions. In addition to in-classroom leadership, Mr. Reed has been a junior high and high school football, basketball, and track coach for many years.

Teacher of the Month is an ongoing program which will occur every month that school is in session.
