SPOKANE, WA. – Arnold High School senior Eli Rogers recently represented Nebraska at the 58th High School Youth Forum [HSYF] during the Society for Range Management (SRM) Annual International Meeting. Sponsored by the Nebraska Section of SRM, Rogers had the opportunity to engage with industry professionals, participate in educational events, and connect with fellow youth passionate about range management.
To qualify for HSYF, Rogers first attended Nebraska Range Camp, where he gained valuable knowledge and experience in rangeland management.
“Going in, I thought I would be a fish out of water, but once I saw all the people I knew from range camp, I knew it would be a great week,” said Rogers.
Rogers also delivered a speech to the Nebraska section as part of the selection process. Reflecting on the journey, Rogers shared, “Even if I hadn’t been chosen for HSYF, range camp was an incredible experience on its own. The knowledge and connections I made there were well worth it.”
Rogers states that this is an amazing opportunity for anyone interested in managing cattle or any other grazing animal. Applications for Nebraska Range Camp can be found on the Nebraska Section Society For Range Management website. Scholarships for Range Camp are often available at your local Natural Resources District.
Among the many highlights of the event, Rogers particularly enjoyed the ecological tour, a professional dinner, seeing all the Nebraska Section members, and witnessing Lisa McMillan receive a well-deserved award. A lighter moment that stood out was watching Hoyt, a subcommittee member, make a snow angel, bringing laughter to the event.
Rogers was nominated and voted to serve as the 2025 President of the High School Youth Forum in Monterey, CA. Looking ahead, Eli is honored to be embracing the opportunity to continue advocating for responsible range management and youth involvement in the field.
