The Arnold and Ansley play production teams have certainly earned a standing ovation after their performances at Wednesday’s state competition. Arnold was crowned champion in D2 competition while Ansley was awarded third place.
Arnold made it to state competition by taking the top spot in the D2-5 district with their performance of “Marching On”, written by AP Valor and inspired by Doris Stevens’ Jailed for Freedom. Lana Cool directed the Arnold cast, along with assistant directors Holly Remund and Jason Wehnes.
At the state competition, all three judges placed Arnold in first for a total of 179 out of a possible 180 points. In addition to hoisting the state championship trophy on Wednesday, Arnold’s Ella Cool was recognized as Outstanding Performer #1. The 2024 state championship makes it five straight for Arnold dating back to 2020.
Ansley punched their ticket to compete at state by winning the D2-4 district with a performance of “The Price of Freedom”, written and Directed by Kalla Sawyer with assistant director Victoria Gibbons.
At state Wednesday, Ansley secured third place scoring 168 out of a possible 180 points.
With their performances of “Marching On” and “The Price of Freedom”, Arnold and Ansley represented the central Nebraska area amongst competition from St. Mary’s (2nd), Archangels Catholic (4th), Bruning-Davenport (5th), and Banner County (6th).
Gothenburg is slated to compete on Friday in class B competition at 12:15 PM.
