NORTH PLATTE – Several area students, alongside the North Platte Community College music department, will highlight African American songs and composers during its spring concert on March 9.
Cozad’s Karissa Jackson and Gothenburg’s Dustin Cartmill will perform with the college’s jazz band, The Jazzy Knights, and concert choir, The Knightingales.
LaReina Colton of Imperial and Trenton Emmons of McCook will also perform, as will seven from the North Platte area. Sidney’s Hannah Langley will play, as well.
Songs will include: “United in Purpose” by Rollo Dilworth with words by Maya Angelou, “Precious Lord, Take My Hand” by Thomas Dorsey, and folk song, “Bring Me Little Water, Silvy,” by Huddie Ledbetter, better known as Leadbelly.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the McDonald-Belton Theater on the NPCC South Campus, 601 West State Farm Road. It is free and open to the public.
