Area students bring home hardware from state speech competition

KEARNEY, Neb.— The NSAA state speech championships were held this past Friday and Saturday in Kearney. Several competitors from the area brought home medals and trophies reflecting their strong efforts.

Team champions, team runner-up:
A: Lincoln East, Millard North
B: York, Skutt Catholic
C1: Gothenburg, Grand Island Central Catholic
C2: Hartington-Newcastle, Elmwood-Murdock
D1: Riverside, Wausa
D2: Osmond, Chambers

Gothenburg had nine medalists on their championship team. The OID team of Brant Miller, Carson Reiman, Carter Kincheloe, Lathan Buesing, and Mavrix Butterfield was state champions, as was Carson Reiman in extemporaneous speaking. Jack Aden and Logan Feather teamed up to take silver in duet acting, Lathan Buesing was second in entertainment speaking, and Logan Feather took second in oral interpretation of poetry. Fourth place medals went to Jack Aden for entertainment speaking and oral interpretation of humorous prose. Carter Kincheloe also got fourth in oral interpretation of serious prose. Mavrix Butterfield came in sixth in extemporaneous speaking while Logan Feather took home a sixth place medal in program oral interpretation.

Callaway’s Chenney Dishman took home the gold medal in program oral interpretation.

Caydence Feldman of Litchfield placed fourth in extemporaneous speaking.

Broken Bow’s Maggie Peterson took home a fifth place medal competing in persuasive speaking.

Noah Anderson and Eli Rogers of Arnold both took home medals in extemporaneous speaking, placing fifth and sixth respectively.

Brady’s Abigail Robison had a strong performance in program oral interpretation, placing fifth. Teammate Carlee Tillman was sixth in informative speaking.

Stapleton’s Coltan Clouse was sixth in informative speaking.

Garittee Smith and Kiera Bailey teamed up for Ansley and came home with a sixth place medal.
