Arcadia powder coating business welcomed to Broken Bow Chamber

ARCADIA, Neb.— A shop on the west end of Arcadia was the site of a Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting that doubled as a grand opening on Friday afternoon. Master Kote Powder Coating sliced red ribbon to signal their partnership with the chamber shortly after beginning business.

Craig Sheridan moved to Broken Bow in 2014 and worked as a part of Broken Bow Wind II until March of this year. He said he didn’t want to completely retire, so he started researching possible ventures that interested him.

“I love working on projects and, you know, restoring things. And that’s really what this is about. You take an old piece of metal or a new piece of metal and you refurbish it,” said Sheridan.

After purchasing equipment to sit alongside some items that remained in the building that formerly housed Staab Welding, Sheridan said it took several months to build the pieces and get settled into some client work before now being open to the public.

“So you have powder in a box and you have the gun. The gun electrostatically charges the powder,” Sheridan explained. “So anything that’s metal is grounded. It’s kind of like taking clothes out of the dryer with the dryer sheet. The dryer sheet wants to stick to the clothes. So it would be like the clothes are the metal part and the dryer sheet is the powder. Hitting the trigger on the gun charges the powder and it wants to seek ground. So it goes to the part and attaches and is ready to bake.”

Sheridan said he has already worked with a variety of items and is looking forward to expanding what he has coated. Some examples he provided included ag equipment, car frames, wheels, brake calipers, engine parts, lawn furniture, hand rails, and more. He is even learning more about the process of being able to powder coat glass.

About 900 color selections hang on the wall inside the shop, but Sheridan said he has a lot more available for customers. He said that right now it’s mostly drop off and pick up as far as projects for customers go, but arrangements can be made if needed.
