Ansley, Arnold, Mullen, Stapleton win medals at state speech championships

The 2023 state speech competition for classes D1 and D2 took place throughout the day on Friday. Competitors from Anselmo-Merna, Ansley, Arcadia, Arnold, Callaway, Hyannis, Loup County, McPherson County, Mullen, S-E-M, Sargent, and Stapleton were among the students speaking at Kearney High School.

When the dust settled after the finals, medal winners from the area were:

Ansley:
Gradie Cunningham (D2 Humorous)- 6th place
Arnold:
Gracie Neth (D2 Extemp)- 4th place
Ella Cool (D2 Humorous)- 3rd place
Danah Baldwin (D2 Serious)- 5th place
Riata Remund, Ella Cool, Danah Baldwin, Anna Tullis, Ivy Tullis (D2 OID)- State champions
Mullen:
Ashlyn Simonson (D2 Persuasive)- 4th place
Stapleton:
Cayson Johnston (D1 Extemp)- 6th place

At the beginning of the awards for D1 and D2 state speech, Deema Haidle of Callaway was presented with the Believers and Achievers award.
