Those who would like to conduct business at the Custer County Courthouse this week will have to use an entrance other than the doors at the top of the courthouse steps. The steps will be closed for what is being described as ‘finishing touches’ this week.
The courthouse stairs re-opened just before the beginning of 2025 after a project that started in May 2024. Former Custer County Supervisor Dwain Bryner told KCNI/KBBN at that time that the project was pursued to make the stairs more friendly to travers, with a deeper tread and less rise. An improved look was another goal.
In December, Bryner added that about $25,000 of work still remained to be completed with a new contractor after the contract with the original contractor was amended to a lower amount due to unsatisfactory work.
