Ag Society Recap 11/9

The Custer County Ag Society held its regularly scheduled meeting on Thursday night.

All but two members were present, Troy Walz and Ashely Garrelts.

The Regular Board Meeting started off with the approval to pay monthly bills and then moved on to committee reports.

The board then moved the meeting to hear committee reports from the Extension Office, 4-H Council, and the Grounds Manager.

Troy Walz with the extension has told Kent Nelson, President of the Ag Society that the 4-H Livestock Committee meeting will be on the evening of November 20.

Marla Stallbaumer, on the 4-H Council, brought up that on November 19 at 2:00 p.m., 4-H recognition will be taking place.

And the Grounds Manager, Ben McCaslin brought up usual maintenance fixes but will also be looking into pricing benches as the current ones are a liability.

In the new business, the Winterball will be in January at the One Box Convention Center in Broken Bow, the discussion for the purchase of a floor cleaner for building 18 will be continued into the next meeting and so will the consideration of the 2025 Nebraska State Junior Hereford proposal.

Under old business, they are going to get bids to demolish buildings 7&8.

For the Annual Board Meeting, the meeting minutes for the November 10, 2022, Annual Board Meeting were approved.

For the President’s Report, Kent Nelson gave a well-rounded report of all the successes of the board over the year including new playground equipment, restroom upgrades, industrial steel fans, and the buddy trailer to help clean manure, and thanked all the volunteers, board members, and sponsors who helped contribute to the success.

Under new business, The By-laws got changed which moved the Ag Society to be a 501(c)(5) from a 501(c)(3), which provides an exemption for labor, agricultural, or horticultural organizations.

Following the By-Law change, Kent Nelson, Blair Hartman, and Ashely Garrelts terms were finished.

Kent Nelson, who has been apart of the Ag Society for nine years, stepped down as President.

Ashley Garrelts, Blair Hartman, and Bonnie Winters were elected to be Board Members for the 2024-2026 term.

The Board consists of nine members who serve three year terms. Any resident of Custer County can be elected to be on the board, show up to vote and attend the meetings as they are always open to the public.
