36th Annual Pumpkin Carvers Event at the Calamus

This Saturday, the Nebraska Game and Parks are hosting a Pumpkin Carvers event, starting at 9:30 a.m. with other activities planned throughout the day.

You are invited to bring your own pumpkins and carving tools, but the Game and Parks will have some available.

Linda Fryzek with the Game and Parks told KCNI/KBBN how many pumpkins are generally decorated.

“We set up 14 picnic tables and we put them in two different rows. So generally speaking there are well over 100 decorated pumpkins with the lights on. We use lights instead of candles so everything stays lit.”

A potluck will also be happening at noon, and you are invited to bring a food dish to share.

From 1-3 p.m., there are kid’s games, races, a downhill rolling pumpkin derby, and pumpkin launching.

By 4:00 pm, pumpkin carving will be finished and all the spooky creations will be displayed for all to see. Lights for the pumpkins will be provided.

The pumpkin display and trolley rides will begin at 5 p.m. and will go through 10 p.m.

Fryzek also talked about the artists who carve the pumpkins.

“And I’ll tell you what, we have great artists in our area. We really do. They turn out wonderfully.”

This event is free with a valid state park vehicle permit. Daily passes are $6 and will be available at the event.
