BROKEN BOW- The 30th annual D.A.R.E. golf tournament will tee off at the Broken Bow Golf Club on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

The tournament will start at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start. It is an 18 hole scramble and costs $50 per person, which pays for green fees, mulligans, and lunch. To register you can contact (308) 872-6424. To reserve a golf cart contact (308) 872-6444.

The golf tournament is a fundraiser for the Custer County D.A.R.E. program. Custer County Sheriff Dan Osmond says the tournament funds the D.A.R.E. program for the entire county.

“It supports the schools in every town, and it buys our supplies and just the thing that we need to keep the program running,” says Sheriff Osmond.

D.A.R.E. stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education. This program helps 6th grade students around the county raise their self-esteem and help them identify positive alternatives to drugs. Sheriff Osmond also says that this program helps students with their decision making in the hope that when they have to make decisions about drugs, they will make the right one.

“It just helps them maybe take a little bit longer look at what’s going on so if they come up with an idea that maybe isn’t such a good idea, maybe they don’t do that first and they try something different. Or if they make a choice that has a bad outcome, then they know that they should have done something different the next time,” Sheriff Osmond states.
