Supervisors Approve North Parking Lot Improvements

The Custer County Board of Supervisors met for a short meeting on Tuesday morning, May 13. The agenda was light, and the Board addressed the issues without delay.

Some action items the Supervisors acted on include approving a name change to Carolyn Coffman as manager of the Broken Bow Golf Club in conjunction with the business’s liquor license.

The Board elected to continue an agreement with Blue Cross and Blue Shield for 2025/2026. The cost of the policies increased by 5.4%, and the Board indicated they will do some comparison shopping for next year.

The Board approved the low bid and purchase of an Eager Beaver 52SL Lowboy Equipment Trailer with Diamond Plate from Murphy Tractor and Equipment for $85,100.

The Supervisors followed County Attorney Steve Bower’s recommendation and approved an amendment to the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway and Custer County C&M contract agreement.

A letter of support request was approved to be utilized by the Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) Program. The program can provide dollars to expand high-speed Internet access through funding, planning, and improving infrastructure. The (BEAD) program considers awarding grants to providers who want to develop in the area.

The Custer County Sheriff’s Department entered a request for the Supervisors to consider allowing its employees to donate unused comp time to vacation and sick time. The Board elected to forward the request to the Employee Handbook Committee to review the current regulations.

Following a conversation about the parking lot north of the Courthouse, the Supervisors agreed to place park curbs on the north side of the lot. The park curbs will provide a walking space between the lot and the street. The County owns the property and removes snow in the winter months. The City has agreed to paint fresh parking space lines as well. The supervisors felt these actions would create a more organized, safe, and usable parking space for everyone.

The meeting concluded at 10:20 am. The next meeting will be held on May 27 at 9:00 am upstairs in the Custer County Courthouse.
