The Custer County Board of Supervisors met for a short regular session on Tuesday, July 9th. Before going into a Board of Equalization session, the Board approved the previous meeting minutes, committee reports, and middle-of-the-month claims.
During the Board of Equalization session, the Board unanimously approved all of Custer County Assessor Elise Taylor’s recommendations for tax list corrections and over, under, omitted valuations. Taylor’s recommendation for a tax exemption for the Mission Crossroads Center and Ministerio Internacional Dios Amor Church was also unanimously approved.
Upon returning to the regular session, the Supervisors expedited the agenda. Notably, they showed their support for community events by approving two resolutions. These resolutions allow Chairman Chip Blowers to sign documents for the official closure of the Dunning/ Arnold road and the road south of Callaway for the Sandhills Open Road Challenge events on August 9th and 10th.
The Board approved signing the Department of Health and Human Service Child Support Enforcement Subward Grants. With the approval, the Clerk of the District Court and County Attorney can now sign, allowing Federal reimbursement of $166,500 and $54,775, respectively. County Attorney Steve Bowers was also approved to sign Grant #25-CB-0506, a $178,000 Federal reimbursement for a grant awarded to Healing Hearts and Families.
Following a lunch break, the Board spent the remainder of the day in Board of Equalization Property Valuation Protest Hearings, which were also scheduled for Wednesday, July 10th.
