Extension Office Offering December Workshops for Beef Producers

CUSTER COUNTY – The Nebraska Extension Office will be holding a series of winter workshops for beef producers in Central Nebraska on the 12th and 15th of December.

The workshops will provide an opportunity for producers to learn from beef issues that impacted the area during the previous growing season, and give producers the information necessary to make decisions regarding their cattle for the upcoming year.

Additionally, they will allow beef producers to renew their private pesticide applicator license for 2023.

The first workshop will take place at Taylor’s 4-H Building between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday, December 12. The topics covered will include water and fencing, heifer development, and managing grazing and forages in the midst of a drought.

The second workshop is scheduled for Thursday, December 15 at the Cherry County Fairgrounds in Valentine between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., with lunch provided. The focus of the second workshop will be range movement, heifer development, and bull selection.

Those interested in renewing private pesticide applicator’s licenses are encouraged to attend the entire program. Though the training is offered in 2022, producers will not lose a year of certification on their private pesticide applicator’s license.

The Extension Office also wants to remind potential attendees that these workshops will only offer recertification of private pesticide licenses; those requiring initial training will need to attend training courses to be offered early next year.

There is no cost to attend the program, but renewing the applicator’s license will cost $50. Preregistration is appreciated, but not required. A registration form can be found here, and all questions can be directed to the Custer County Extension Office at (308) 872-6831.
