Broken Bow – Every fall, the Nebraska One Box Pheasant Hunt takes place in Broken Bow, Nebraska. Hunters come out to the Sandhills for three days of shooting competitions, hunting activities, award banquets, and social events. From sunrise to sunset and is equipped with only one box of shells, select hunters to search for pheasants taking flight to try to bag the most birds and win the competition.
In having a tight race between two teams, only one came out on top with 77 points, and getting 15 pheasants and the difference being that one quail was bagged brought Team EnerSys out on top. Team EnerSys Captain was Derek Harris with guides Kent Leibhart, Mark Schmidt, Dog Handler Pat Keslar, and Levi French being their scorekeeper.
In a close second, 4 County Fowl Shots had a total of 75 points, 15 pheasants, and no quail with Nate Bell being the Captain, Guides Jacob Holcomb and Conrad Huefle, Dog Handler being Gene Giles, and Shane McCormick being their scorekeeper.
In third place with 70 points, 14 pheasants, and zero quail, was JR’s Dog Handlers with Andy Tucker being their Captain, Bob Allen and Mike Flint being guides, Tel Keslar being the dog handler and Jake McCormick keeping score.
Since 1961, the Nebraska One Box Pheasant Hunt has been dedicated to the fellowship among sportsmen and supporting the creation of wildlife habitat. The One Box corporation is composed of local residents who aim to promote the fine hunting and recreational opportunities so abundant in Central Nebraska. The group is instrumental in funding local scholarships.
Funds generated by this non-profit organization also maintain the One Box Gun Club and support a successful youth shooting program with members competing in elite national competitions.
