Ybarra Named 3rd Team All American

Senior Cam Ybarra was honored as an All-American by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) on Wednesday. A native of Mission Viejo, Calif., Ybarra was named an NFCA third-team All-American.

Ybarra is the first Husker to be an All-American since Nebraska had two All-Americans in 2016. Ybarra is only the fourth second baseman to earn All-America honors in program history and the first since 2005.

The All-America award capped a decorated senior season for Ybarra. In addition to being recognized as an All-American, Ybarra was a first-team All-Midwest Region honoree and a first-team All-Big Ten selection while earning a spot on the Big Ten All-Defensive team. She was also the Most Outstanding Player of the 2022 Big Ten Tournament after she drove in the game-winning run in the eighth inning of Nebraska’s championship game victory over Michigan, giving the Huskers their first Big Ten Tournament title.

Ybarra hit .365 this spring with 14 doubles, 10 homers and 39 RBIs. She led Nebraska in hits (65), doubles (14) and triples (3), while ranking second on the team with a .646 slugging percentage. Her 14 doubles were the second-most by a senior in program history. She finished with 27 extra-base hits in only 51 games and defensively, Ybarra posted a .972 fielding percentage and had a hand in 19 double plays.

Ybarra, who finished her career with the 14th-best career batting average (.333) in school history, is the 17th Husker to be named an NFCA All-American. Nebraska’s 17 All-Americans have combined for 28 All-America awards in program history.
