Nebraska to Collide with Top 25 Ohio State in Women’s Basketball

Nebraska continues a challenging three-game road swing by tangling with No. 21 Ohio State on Thursday evening in Columbus.

Tip-off between the Huskers (17-5, 6-5 Big Ten) and the Buckeyes (17-4, 9-3 Big Ten) is set for 6 p.m. (CT)  The game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM with coverage on the Huskers Radio Network beginning at 5:45 p.m.

The Huskers go hunting for a marquee road win against an Ohio State squad that has won eight of its last nine games, including wins over top-25 Maryland and Iowa teams in its last five contests.

Ohio State ranks in the top five nationally in scoring offense (5th, 82.1 ppg) and field goal percentage (3rd, .473) while featuring Division I’s best three-point offense (.400, 9.1 3FG pg).

Alexis Markowski, a six-time Big Ten Freshman of the Week and a leading contender for Big Ten Freshman of the Year, leads Nebraska with 12.3 points per game. The 6-3 forward/center from Lincoln also ranks second on the team with 7.0 rebounds. In Big Ten play, Markowski is averaging 15.7 points and 7.3 rebounds.

Jaz Shelley has starred in her first season at Nebraska. The 5-9 guard from Moe, Australia, who was a teammate of Ohio State starting guard Taylor Mikesell at Oregon last season, owns six double-doubles including one triple-double this season. Shelley ranks in the top 10 in the Big Ten in rebounding (7.5 ppg, 8th), assists (5.0 apg, 7th), blocks (1.3 bpg, 2nd) and steals (1.7 spg, 10th). She also ranks second among the Huskers and 23rd in the Big Ten in scoring (11.8 ppg).

Ohio State leads the all-time series with Nebraska, 11-9, but the Huskers battled their way to a 63-55 win over the then-No. 15 and unbeaten Buckeyes last season in Lincoln (Jan. 16, 2021).
