Huskers Prepare for Crown Basketball Tournament – Games to be Broadcast on KBBN

The Nebraska men’s basketball team will travel to Las Vegas this weekend to begin play in the inaugural Crown basketball tournament on Monday. Visiting with the media this week, head coach Fred Hoiberg said it is a very busy time as the Huskers try to prepare for the tournament and also try to handle recruiting especially as it relates to the transfer portal which opened this past Monday.

“Obviously crazy time preparing and doing everything to get ready for the tournament that starts on Monday at the same time, with the landscape of college basketball right now, doing a lot of work as far as trying to figure out the roster for next season.  Visits and zooms and going out and seeing guys at the same time balancing everything that we have to do to put our game plan together and get ready for Arizona State on Monday.”

To make it even more difficult is the departure of assistant coach Adam Howard who is leaving to join the program at North Carolina State. As Nebraska begins its search for a replacement, Hoiberg mentioned during his press conference that current staff member and Broken Bow grad Paydyn Borders would be helping to fill Howard’s shoes as Nebraska prepares for the Crown Tournament.

“We have Paydyn Borders who’s done a really good job for us he’s been in a role where he can be on the floor working with the guys.  A lot of the things that he (Howard) helped me with on the offensive end we’ll have our package and we’ll have coverage out there so, again, we’ll miss Adam, everything he did.  I’m thankful I had the opportunity to get to work with him for the three years.  He’s certainly a guy that leaves on good terms and we’ll definitely stay in contact.”

The Huskers will open tournament play against Arizona State. The game will be broadcast on KBBN 95.3 FM with coverage on the Huskers Radio Network beginning at 6:30 central time Monday night.
