No. 16 Nebraska concluded its weekend series at Ohio State with a 10-1 setback to the Buckeyes on Sunday afternoon at Bill Davis Stadium in Columbus, Ohio.
Nebraska (34-14, 17-7 Big Ten) scored one run on five hits, while Ohio State (24-21, 13-11 Big Ten) totaled 10 runs and 11 hits.
Rhett Stokes singled and drove in Nebraska’s lone run, while Joshua Overbeek and Drew Grego each had a double. Jeter Worthley and Case Sanderson recorded one hit apiece.
Cooper Katskee dropped to 5-2 on the season after surrendering five runs on four hits across 3.1 innings. Ty Horn allowed two runs on three hits in 2.2 innings of relief. J’Shawn Unger gave up three runs in two outs, while Jalen Worthley, Ryan Harrahill and Colin Nowaczyk combined to pitch the final 1.1 innings to close it out.
A two-out solo home run in the bottom of the first had the Buckeyes up 1-0 through the opening inning.
Ohio State scored four more runs in the bottom of the fourth with back-to-back homers to extend the lead to 5-0, while solo homers in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings sent a 7-0 game into the seventh.
Nebraska plated its lone run of the afternoon with a pair of hits in the top of the seventh. Overbeek lined a double to right field and came around to score on Stokes’ RBI single through the right side to make it a 7-1 game.
The Buckeyes added three more runs in the bottom of the seventh with two more homers to grow the lead to 10-1.
Nebraska returns to action with a home series next weekend against Iowa at Hawks Field at Haymarket Park on Friday-Sunday, May 8-10.
