Erik Chinander Fired as Nebraska Defensive Coordinator

A week after former Nebraska coach Scott Frost was fired, Husker defensive coordinator Erik Chinander was out of a job, too.

According to a statement released by the university Sunday, interim coach Mickey Joseph relieved Chinander from his position and promoted assistant Bill Busch to that role for the remainder of the season.

“We appreciate Erik and the work and dedication he has given to our football program,” Joseph said. “At this time, I feel that it is in the best interest of the Nebraska football program to take the leadership of the defense in another direction and decided Bill Busch will take over as defensive coordinator.”

Chinander had been with the Huskers since 2018 while Busch had returned to NU this season as special teams coordinator.
