Nebraska announced Tuesday that the Huskers will open the 2027 season against Miami (Ohio) at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Mo. The game will be played on Friday, Aug. 27, and will be the second time in three seasons the Huskers have opened a season at Arrowhead.
The Huskers and RedHawks were originally scheduled to play in Lincoln on Sept. 11 but moved the game to the season opener after the FBS Oversight committee made changes to the playing calendar allowing schools to start a week earlier. The game will be the first-ever meeting between Nebraska and Miami (Ohio).
Nebraska also began the 2025 season in Arrowhead, defeating Cincinnati, 20-17, before a packed stadium filled with red-clad Husker fans. NU is 2-1 all-time at Arrowhead Stadium dating back to 1998.
“Our fans and team enjoyed the game in Kansas City a year ago, and shortly after that contest we began having discussions with the Chiefs about returning to Arrowhead,” Nebraska Deputy AD/Chief Operating Officer Haven Fields said. “The 2027 schedule provided an opportunity to play a game in another great venue with Memorial Stadium at a reduced capacity, while maintaining seven games in Lincoln for our fans.”
Following the season opener in Kansas City, Nebraska will complete its non-conference season with home games against Northern Illinois (Sept. 4) and Northern Iowa (Sept. 18). The Huskers are expected to have a Big Ten Conference game on Sept. 11.
The matchup with Miami in Kansas City will not be part of Nebraska’s seven-game season ticket package for 2027. Ticket information for the game at Arrowhead will be available at a later date.
Nebraska and Miami (Ohio) have also agreed to an additional matchup with the contest scheduled for Sept. 6, 2031, in Lincoln.
Because of the change to the FBS playing calendar, it is likely that Nebraska will have additional adjustments to dates of previously scheduled non-conference games in future years.
