The NSAA state cross country championships took place Friday in Kearney at the Kearney Country Club. Recapping some of the area highlights.
Arcadia/Loup City’s Dutch Miller was a state medalist in Class D boys. The ALC junior finished fifth in a time of 16:48.9. It is the second state medal for Miller who placed fifteenth in 2025. Walter Bierman of South Loup finished in the top 50 of the Class D boys field finishing 41st in a time of 18:27.8
Shylee Gonzales of Sandhills/Thedford was a state medalist in Class D girls. The Sandhills/Thedford sophomore finished 10th in a time of 20:46.4. Lena Spencer of Burwell was a state medalist in the Class D girls race finishing 15th overall in a time of 21:12.1. Jalise Busch of Burwell and Ady Hampton of Mullen each finished in the top 50 of the Class D girls state field finishing 35th and 47th respectively. South Loup girls qualified for state as a team. The Lady Bobcats were led by Jade Bierman who finished 67th overall in a time of 22:57.6.
Broken Bow senior Ashlyn Schauda concluded her high school cross country career at the state meet on Friday. The four time state qualifier and 2024 state medalist finished in the top 50 of the Class C girls field
placing 45th overall in a time of 21:40.9. Gothenburg’s Scout Bell claimed her second consecutive state gold medal winning the Class C girls race in a time of 19:24.3. Gothenburg finished as team runner-up in the Class C girls division. Gothenburg finished fourth in the Class C boys team standings led by Tyler Hetz who finished third in a time of 16:41.2.
