School Board Highlights Students in Brief Monday Evening Meeting

The Broken Bow Board of Education held a brief meeting Monday evening. The meeting was called to order by School Board President Tom Osmond at 6:07 PM in the BBPS Board Conference Room in the BBPS Middle School/High School Building. Colby Fisher was the lone absence from the meeting.

Board Treasurer Jennifer Jackson reported an income for the District of about $1.4 million, with expenditures of around $1.3 million. Superintendent Darren Toby noted expenses are slightly higher this time of year, with insurance payments and start-of-school activities. Jackson noted a question about concrete installation payments of $9,000, which Tobey noted was for a pad between the boy’s locker-room exit and the sidewalk on the south east side of the school building and another on the practice field.

In District accolades Tobey noted that Eleni Hernandez and Tristan Taylor have been selected to sing the National Anthem at this Friday’s Cross Country State Championship. According to the NSAA, Hernandez and Taylor were selected for the honor from over 315 auditions. Another singer, Madden Kleeb will be off to the 2026 Nebraska All-State Chorus in Lincoln in mid-November.

BBPS Student and KCNI/KBBN intern Jack white was also recognized for his continued radio work announcing District Volley Ball matches.

Tobey stated the National FFA conference is this week. FFA Sponsor Caleb tenBensel will be taking another group of Ag students to Indianapolis to attend the conference and network with other future leaders in the farming community.

Osmond noted teacher/administration contract negotiations are due to start, likely in December. Other upcoming events include the annual Veterans Day program Wednesday, November 11 starting at 9:00 AM.

After approving a series of primarily administrative policies, the meeting adjourned at 6:20 PM. The next meetings of the Broken Bow School Board will be a November 2 Working Session at 12:00 noon, and the Regular meeting at 6:00 PM on Monday, November 16 in the BBPS Middle School/High School Board Conference Room.
