Dawson County Man Sentenced Following Jury Conviction in Fatal Shooting

Aristh D. Rodriguez Linares, 35, of Lexington, was sentenced yesterday to 30-45 years imprisonment in Dawson County District Court by Judge Chawnta M. Durham following his conviction in connection with the shooting death of Maykel Farinas Carballo.

Following a jury trial that began August 3, 2026, and concluded August 12, 2026, Linares was convicted of:

  • Count I: Manslaughter, a Class IIA felony;
  • Count II: Use of a Firearm to Commit a Felony, a Class IC felony; and
  • Count III: Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm, a Class ID felony.

Linares fired 11 rounds from a handgun into the vehicle occupied by Carballo. Carballo was struck six times and was killed.

The Lexington Police Department, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Buffalo County Sheriff’s Office, Nebraska State Patrol, and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office investigated the case.

The Dawson County Attorney’s Office and the Nebraska Attorney General’s Office prosecuted the case.
