The Custer County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) wrapped up their participation in the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) ‘Speeding Catches Up With You’ campaign this past Sunday. The campaign began back on July 27.
CCSO issued 167 citations during the campaign, which included 132 for speeding, four for seatbelt violations, and seven for stop sign violations.
“There are a lot of people in a hurry, and you’re not really gaining much by that,” said Sheriff Dan Osmond. “If you look at the few minutes you shaved off a trip or the few second you shaved off the trip, you just really didn’t change anything and the danger you put yourself in or other drivers in, it just isn’t worth it.”
On top of traffic violations, two arrests were made for driving under the influence, five citations were given for possession of marijuana, and three incidents involved the possession of drug paraphernalia. One misdemeanor warrant arrest and a felony warrant arrest were made as well as a part of 247 total traffic stops.
CCSO is reminding motorists that speeding and other traffic violations can have serious consequences. They thanked the public for their cooperation while encouraging them to continue to obey posted speed limits, wear their seatbelts, and remain sober and alert behind the wheel.
