Conservation officers are investigating the drowning of a 7 year old boy at Lake McConaughy State Recreation area on Thursday, according to the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission.
Two children were found unresponsive in the water around 8:30 PM Mountain time. Bystanders began CPR and called 911. Lifesaving efforts were taken over by responding officers and emergency medical personnel upon arrival.
A 5 year old girl was taken to Ogallala Community Hospital in stable condition.
Nebraska Game and Parks said they are keeping thoughts with the family during this difficult time, and reminded all visitors to Nebraska’s lakes and parks to prioritize water safety as the recreation season continues.
