The Custer County Salvation Army’s annual back to school giveaway is tonight from 4:30 PM to 6 PM at the Broken Bow Municipal Building.
With an aim to help the budget that back to school shopping can command due to rising school supply prices, Custer County students from preschool through 12th grade are invited to attend and select backpacks and school supplies.
Families in the county who otherwise may not be able to cover the cost of back to school expenses have had the Salvation Army sponsored event available to them for more than 20 years now. The Omaha office of the Salvation Army provides backpacks, while funds for school supplies come from the Cliff Luther Endowment, bell ringing donations, and community contributions like those made recently by Melham Medical Center employees.
All children need to be accompanied by an adult and doors will not open tonight until 4:30 PM. Both backpacks and school supplies will be available while supplies last.
Those wishing to donate supplies now or in the future or that want to help with the project can contact Debby Moninger at 308-870-2882 or Carol Allen at 308-870-4397.
