The Broken Bow American Legion baseball teams traveled to St. Paul Monday night for a juniors and seniors doubleheader.
In the juniors game, St. Paul held off a late Broken Bow comeback to hang on for the win. St. Paul used a six run second inning to build an 8-1 lead after two innings. Broken Bow started fighting back in the fourth inning with two runs, but St. Paul scored what would be a critical run in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 9-3 going to the fifth. In the top of the fifth, Broken Bow put together a rally scoring five runs but would end up falling a run short as St. Paul held on for a 9-8 win. Broken Bow outhit St. Paul 8-3. Queston Young was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and Cooper Busch was 1 for 2 with three runs batted in. The Bow juniors will travel to Minden later this week to begin play in the Area 6 tournament.
In the seniors game, St. Paul’s Christian Lemburg was the story. Lemburg pitched a near perfect game pitching a complete game no-hitter allowing three walks and striking out 16. At the plate, Lemburg finished 2 for 3 and drove in two of St. Paul’s four runs. The game was scoreless after four innings, but St. Paul scored three runs in the fifth inning and added one more run in the sixth to collect a 4-0 win.
