Hunters For Youth will host their annual VIK Days at Bowman Lake in Loup City on Saturday, May 23.
VIK Days is an annual, free event that provides children with the opportunity to enjoy outdoor fishing from the bank. Nicole Anderson from Hunters For Youth explained that it is an opportunity to teach kids how to fish.
“But a lot of it’s going to be educating and training new kids, teaching them how to make the proper knots so then their bait doesn’t go flying off and teaching them about being careful around the hooks and all of the things that could potentially become a problem if we aren’t paying attention and just getting them to try to get on some fish and have a fun day,” stated Anderson.
There will be mentors on hand to help the kids, and there will be fishing equipment available for anyone to use. The event will start at 9 a.m. and go until noon at Bowman Lake along Highway 92 in Loup City.
Participants must follow all Nebraska Game and Parks regulations. Fishing permits and regulations can be found at outdoornebraska.gov.
