Travelers Adjust to New Speed Limit Through Merna on Highway 2

Those traveling to Merna will have to adjust to a new, lowered speed limit on Highway 2.

The request to have the speed limit dropped was approved by the Village of Merna earlier this month. District 4 Supervisor James “Bump” Markham first mentioned the town of Merna was working on getting the speed limit on Highway 2 through Merna dropped to 55 MPH at the April 14 Custer County Board of Supervisors meeting.

With Anselmo-Merna schools in close proximity to the highway, and buses, along with young drivers, entering and exiting the highway, citizens were concerned about the speed limit remaining at 65 MPH.

Road 433, just west of Highway 2 in Merna, was approved for a speed limit change on April 14 by the Custer County Board of Supervisors. This drop in speed limit was 55 to 35 MPH. Its speed limit change and the drop on the highway are hoped to be able to work together to keep speeds down.
