Broken Bow City Council will meet Tuesday night starting at 6 PM at the Municipal Building on South 10th Avenue.
After the consent agenda, new business items begin with the subject of Ordinance 1308, which establishes mandatory monthly trash assessments on the utility bills of residential and business properties within city limits. The ordinance is eligible to have its three readings waived should council choose to do so before it is decided on.
The item comes before Council at the request of the law office representing S&L Sanitation Service of Broken Bow, citing a $2 monthly rate increase for residential service and $4 monthly rate increase for commercial service (small, medium, and large businesses).
Should the rate increase be approved, rates would be as follows:
Residential/low volume business: $27/month
Small businesses: $37.25/month
Medium businesses: $48.25/month
Large businesses: $73.25/month
Super large businesses: Charged by weight and number of trips
An interlocal cooperative agreement between the City of Broken Bow and Custer County Communications is also on tonight’s agenda. Broken Bow City Administrator Dave Schmidt told KCNI/KBBN that discussions had been ongoing for several months. In addition to determining the percentage of cost of operation the City of Broken Bow would be responsible for, the agreement also puts parameters on an oversight committee.
The interlocal agreement has to be approved by the City of Broken Bow and Custer County to begin.
The last item on tonight’s agenda is the sale of surplus real property from the city, specifically the ‘Armory Building’ at the corner of Industrial Park Road and South 1st Avenue.
If the sale is approved to move forward, bids will need to be submitted in writing to the City Clerk by Friday June 5 at Noon at the Municipal Building. Those sealed bids will be opened at the June 9 City Council meeting.
Schmidt told KCNI/KBBN that the exploration of a sale comes up simply due to the fact that the space and floor plan the building presented weren’t going to work for what the city has in mind in the immediate future (whether new uses or for moving other departments into).
