Step Forward award nominations sought

The nomination window for ServeNebraska’s Step Forward awards recently opened, an effort to recognize those who quietly show up for their communities.

A release from ServeNebraska described those who are candidates for the awards as those mentoring, organizing, rebuilding, and supporting by doing the work that keeps communities moving forward, not for recognition, but because they care.

The StepForward awards are Nebraska’s highest honor for volunteer service. Categories include youth, adult, senior, volunteer group, corporate, national service, veteran, disaster, and lifetime achievement.

Examples of who can be nominated include the mentor who never misses a meeting, the volunteer who always shows up first, the group that steps in when it matters most, or the person who makes your community better consistently.

Governor Jim Pillen will select honorees. The deadline for submissions is June 1, 2026.

Awards will be presented in October in Lincoln at the Step Forward Awards Luncheon.
