Longtime BBQ Caterer Bubba’s Smoke Shack celebrated another milestone on Thursday afternoon, April 9, joining the Broken Bow Chamber of Commerce in a ribbon-cutting ceremony held outside of the One Box Convention Center.
BBQ master Shayne Miller is a longtime area resident, growing up in Anselmo. Now a resident of Pleasanton, Miller now travels the region, bringing a wide variety of home-made smoked meats and sides to events of all sizes.
There’s really no event that’s too big or too small,” said Miller. “My biggest event ever I catered a wedding for 860 people. That was kind of a challenge. But my large smoker, the most we’ve had on it is 160 racks of ribs and we still had room on it.”
Miller started with a mobile smoker for a family event in 2005. For the past 11 years, more time has been devoted to catering, with the business growing to the point where nearly every weekend is spent preparing tasty food for events ranging from graduations to funerals.

“I think my favorite part of catering is doing weddings. It’s the easiest one because I got one person to please. That’s the bride,” said Miller.
Miller notes he is most known for his barbecue sauce, along with beans, with a recipe so secret that not even his kids know it.
“I got it wrote down”, jokes Miller, “so that if something ever happens, it’s going to get out there.”
