Governor Pillen issues new order rescinding burn ban in Nebraska

Nebraska Governor Jim Pillen rescinded the most recently issued burn ban for the state on Thursday, clearing the way for burn permits to be issued through local fire chiefs or designated department members.

The new executive order (2610) cites a reduction in the potential for drought-related emergencies across the state. If the most recent extension to the burn ban was to reach completion, that date was set for April 10.

The order also states that conditions that contribute to elevated wildfire threats have diminished to an acceptable degree.

Precipitation received in various locations contributed to the decision with some of the state receiving over an inch of precipitation. Some locations, however, have not had rain to drain from their rain gauges yet as of Thursday afternoon.
