STUART, Neb.— Speech competitors from Loup County (Taylor), Sandhills (Dunning), and Sargent competed at the D2-3 speech district event on Tuesday at Stuart High School. Several medals were won and students from each school will compete at state speech next week in Kearney.
Students needed to place in the top three to punch their ticket to state.
Josie Morrow and Mason Sutton from Sandhills High School teamed up in duet acting and seized a district championship. Their teammate HayLynn Glidden took third in entertainment speaking and will join them at state.
Loup County’s Hudson Kraus came in third in extemporaneous speaking to make it to state.
For Sargent, the OID team of Blake Bottorf, Brent Schipporeit, Kinley Keefe, and Nathan Lowry came in third and will head to state. Corbin Bye competed in persuasive speaking and also came in third. Maci Smith took home a silver medal in program oral interpretation.
In Wednesday speech action, Brady will compete at the D1-6 meet in South Platte while Gothenburg will host the C1-6 district.
Later this week, Perkins County will be the site of the D2-5 district which will include Arnold, McPherson County, Mullen, Stapleton, and Thedford. On Saturday, Litchfield will be the site of the D2-4 which includes Ansley, Arcadia, Callaway, and Litchfield. Cozad will be in Gering on Saturday as a part of B-6 competition.
