NDOT issues reminder about campaign sign locations

Primary election time is quickly approaching, and with that in mind the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is reminding the public that it is unlawful to place political campaign signs, or any signs, on state highway and interstate right-of-way.

Right-of-way includes intersections, medians, entrance and exit ramps, sidewalks and the ditches and lands that make up the right-of-way bordering the length of each roadway.

Signs that are improperly placed will be removed by NDOT maintenance crews. From there, they will be stored for a brief time in the maintenance yards throughout the state where owners can reclaim them.

Counties and municipalities may set their own additional regulations regarding campaign sign placement and size. NDOT encouraged the public to familiarize themselves with any that may exist to avoid possible fines.

Those seeking more information about state right-of-way corridors or who are seeking sign permit information can contact their local district permit officer (listed below). NDOT’s Right-of-Way Division office can be reached at 402-479-4463.
