Nebraska Softball Sweeps South Dakota State

The No. 10 Nebraska softball team grabbed two victories over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits by scores of 9-4 and 8-1 (five innings) on Thursday in the home opener at Bowlin Stadium.

A five-run second inning powered Nebraska to an 8-0, walk-off, five-inning win over South Dakota State in the second game of the doubleheader on Thursday.

With two wins today, NU moved to 16-5 on the season.

Jordy Frahm and Kacie Hoffmann each notched two hits for the Husker offense, while Hannah Camenzind added two RBI. Ava Kuszak, Hoffmann and Bella Bacon each hit a home run. Bacon’s was the walk-off solo shot that ended the game in five innings.

Frahm (5-3) grabbed the win in the circle after throwing five innings with no runs and only five hits, while striking out nine batters.

Kuszak reached on an error to open the bottom of the second inning and Hoffmann homered to make the score 2-0. Hannah Coor walked and Bacon was hit by a pitch before a Lauren Camenzind fielder’s choice took Bacon off the base paths but sent Coor to third. Samantha Bland reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Coor and H. Camenzind doubled to score Bland and L. Camenzind and extend the lead to 5-0.

The Huskers added two runs in the bottom of the third on a Kuszak homer and a Frahm double, which scored L. Camenzind, who singled and Bacon, who reached on a fielder’s choice.

Bacon’s solo home run in the bottom of the fifth sealed the walk-off win for NU.

The Huskers will remain home this Saturday, March 7 to take on the Omaha Mavericks. The game is set to start at 2 p.m. (CT)
