Strong Backs and Sharp Minds for Sale at FFA – Skills USA Hired Hand Auction

National FFA week may have passed, but that doesn’t mean the Broken Bow FFA squad is slowing down. Tonight, March 5, the Broken Bow FFA and Skills USA programs will hold their annual Hired Hand Auction.

One of the major fundraisers conducted through the year for both groups, the Hired Hand Auction gives bidders the chance to hire youth from the FFA and Skills USA programs for a day.

FFA Program Advisor Caleb tenBensel recently told KCNI/KBBN that the proceeds from the auction help to fund the groups’ travel expenses as they compete against other schools around the state.

“All those funds go to supporting students as they go to state convention. And we’ve got a lot of them this year. So we’re really excited about that,” said tenBensel.

Along with the opportunity to hire one of the FFA or Skills USA youth for jobs ranging from babysitting and pet care to agricultural work, a free-will donation will be accepted for a soup supper.

Dinner will be served at the Broken Bow Middle School / High School Commons area at 6:30 PM, with bidding to bring home a hired hand starting shortly thereafter. But bidding can get competitive, so bring your checkbook and prepare to get the high hammer price to hire an FFA or Skills USA hand at their annual auction and soup supper event tonight.
