The Sandhills Journey National Scenic Byway (SJNSB) Association will celebrate another year of plains, cranes, and trains on Saturday, February 28, at the SJNSB Annual Conference in Cairo, NE.

The Byway stretches along Highway 2 from Grand Island in the southeast to Alliance in the Panhandle of Nebraska.

According to SJNSB President Linda Teahon, “We’re 272 miles from Alliance to Grand Island. We’re right in the bread basket of Nebraska. We have cattle, we have corn, and we have some of the most beautiful starry nights. So our theme is plains, cranes, and trains.”

Teahon’s time as Association President is nearing an end. When asked what had changed over the four years she has led the group, one thing stood out to Teahon.

“I keep telling our Byway board how I’m seeing the traffic increase on Highway 2,” Teahon said. “And most of the traffic is going west. They’re going to Merritt Reservoir. They’re going to the Black Hills. They’re going to Yellowstone, wherever. I’m seeing boats, I’m seeing RVs, I’m seeing fifth wheels. And they’re getting off the interstate.”
