Red Flag Warning in Effect for Extreme Fire Danger through This Afternoon

The National Weather Service has posted a A Red Flag Warning today, in effect from 9 AM CST / 8 AM MST to 6 PM CST / 5 PM MST across the Sandhills, north of I-80.

A Red Flag Warning is issued when critical fire weather conditions are present in an area. Unseasonably warm temperatures today in the low to mid 70s will combine with gusty west winds and afternoon humidity as low as 15 percent will create conditions that can lead to fires easily starting and spreading rapidly.

Area residents are urged to avoid burning, to exercise extreme caution around open flames, and safely dispose of cigarettes or other burning materials.
