20th Annual Gathering of Cowboy Poets in Comstock Saturday

The Annual Comstock Cowboy Poetry & Music Gathering will be held Saturday, November 1 at the Wescott Baptist Church in Comstock, NE beginning at  1:00 PM.

According to organizer Don Schauda, this is the 20th such gathering, an anniversary that snuck up a bit.

“Well, I never know until I open my computer up and start looking to put stuff together for another year,” explained Schauda, “and it tells me I’ve got to add one year to whatever I call the annual. And so we’re up to the 20th annual Cowboy Poet Gathering in Comstock at a church that I passed her over there. And yeah, I would have never thought about it. You know, when we started it, you don’t think about how long you might last and this kind of thing, but it’s been a good event”

The afternoon will feature 10 cowboy poets from around the state and beyond, including 3 of the 4 Nebraska poets participating in the National Cowboy Poet Gathering in Elko Nevada.

Following the highly entertaining afternoon of western lore and legend, a free-will donation supper will be served by the church youth at 5:45.

“I refer to it as a ‘donation priced’ supper,” Schauda said. “And so if somebody wants to help out, they can if they don’t, they just eat.”

The evening Featured Show will begin at 7:00 PM. The evening performance includes poets  R.P. Smith, Caleb Smith,  Rick Buoy of Ainsworth, NE and Candy Bishop of North Platte Ne, Jake Riley of Riverdale.

Among other artists performing through the day will be Bill Potter of Kearney, and Marty Blocker of Henderson.

A spirited Pie Auction will close the day’s activities.  All proceeds from the supper and auction will benefit the youth group’s Samaritan’s Purse Shoebox Project, sending gift-filled Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes to children in need around the world.

There is no admission charge to attend Saturday’s Cowboy Poetry and Music Gathering.
