The Custer County Children’s Theater Association (CCCTA) will be welcoming back the Missoula Children’s Theater in November to present an adaption of Rudyard Kipling’s The Jungle Book.
The Missoula Children’s Theater seeks to empower children and adults through theater education and performance. Youth in communities worldwide are encouraged to develop lifelong skills by taking part in live theater productions.
A classic tale of childhood adventure, the Missoula Children’s Theater’s adaptation of The Jungle Book will feature original music and rollicking humor, giving new life to the classic Kipling tale.
CCCTA President Cindy Ogle spoke with KCNI/KBBN about how their organization works with the Missoula Children’s Theater to put on performances, with a goal of hosting a performance annually.
“We do the getting the contract with Missoula Children’s Theater, insurance, location, everything that goes up with getting the auditions week set up,” said Ogle. “They sent out a team of two people to do the performances. One is actually in the play as kind of the narrator, the main character to direct the play along. And then the other one is more the backstage person.”
Auditions to be in The Jungle Book are planned for Monday, November 10, with performances the following Saturday November 15. Auditions are open to all youth from Kindergarten through 12th grades.
Ogle noted the auditions are an open process, with the Missoula Theater tour staff working together to get a feel for what role each child might play, and then cast them in different parts.
Fundraising to support the upcoming production is currently underway. The CCCTA is currently selling raffle tickets to one of three packages: a Couples Date Pack with dinner and movie passes; a Pool Party Pack at the Cobblestone Hotel; and a Family Fun Pack featuring pizza from Trotters Whoa and Go, 4 games at Pleasure Lanes bowling ally and more. Tickets are $10 for each drawing.
