BROKEN BOW— The Broken Bow Police Department (BBPD) says they are investigating a vehicle accident that happened early Saturday morning (September 13), resulting in minor property damage and serious injuries.

BBPD observed a Jeep Grand Cherokee traveling westbound on the 1400 Block of South E Street at a high rate of speed at about midnight. A preliminary investigation suggests that the driver lost control of the vehicle on the 1900 Block, swerved off the road, and struck two nearby homes before coming to a stop.

The driver, a Hispanic male from Fremont, NE, sustained serious injuries in the crash and was taken to Melham Medical Center by the Broken Bow Ambulance Service. He is currently in stable, but critical condition. A male passenger in the vehicle was taken to Melham Medical Center where he was treated and released.

No residents inside the homes were harmed, but both homes did sustain structural damage.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation and more information will be provided as it becomes available.

BBPD thanked the Broken Bow Ambulance Service, Broken Bow Volunteer Fire Department, the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, and the Nebraska State Patrol for their assistance.
